I have never cut away the under fabric and I make Dresden Plates often. I really love them.

No, don’t cut away the fabric under your Dresden plate blocks. The fabric left whole will give your quilt stability.

I have made 4 dresden plate quilts and trimmed backing from under blades. I thought they were too bulky.

Leave the background fabric and don't cut away. Your quilt will be more stable.
