Dryer sheets?

I tried used dryer sheets in one quilt. I sewed them to petal shaped appliques, cut a slit, turned them right side out, then pressed them. I don't have any chemical sensitivities or allergies, but ironing the petals was awful. I ended up changing applique techniques about a quarter way through that quilt.

I haven't and wouldn't use them. I have found they aren't as thick nor last as long as they use to. After a couple of uses they are very thin. I use to be able to use them about four times before they became thin.

You mean you use one in the dryer four times? I've never used a brand that did the job for more then one dryer load.

I don't use dryer sheets at all. My front loader spins the clothes so dry, they come off the line or out of the dryer just fine. Very little static cling. I had heard they are not good for you or your clothes, so I just don't use them.

I've used dryer sheets for foundation piecing for years and I'm allergic to their chemicals, at least when it's ironed. My method is to wash used ones with dawn dish soap. If it'll clean oil covered birds it surely removes chemicals. Plus when they're washed you don't have to iron them flat. I hand smooth and let dry. I'll trim them to the size I want before sewing and they're so thin I never remove them.

When I first started foundation piecing I used some dryer sheets and I just left them in the quilt but now I use sandwich paper. I bought a big box at BJ’s. You do have to remove it.
I think this is what Bonnie Hunter uses.

I've used unscented (used) dryer sheets a few times and you do not have to remove the paper.
There is no scents left at all or chemicals after they are used. I liked using them because they are already like precut but i have used lots of muslin or ugly fabrics for foundation......
