For most of my piecing, I use neutral, black, or white.

I usually use a neutral color such as ivory or real light tan. Sometimes I use light grey. If I am using mostly dark fabrics I do go with a dark color as sometimes the stitches do show when a seam has a little pressure on it. I think it is a personal preference.

Depending on the quilt, I use whatever color I have,(withing reason to piece ), but to quilt I use mostly ecru or white, now if I am using light/white fabric to piece, then I am careful about the thread, I use.

I use neutrals for light colored fabric and gray for darker fabrics. That's just how I was told to do it.
