Thank you, Amma, that is what I didn't know to do. Then after you reload, do you put the needle down in the same hole where you tied and buried, or where exactly? Sorry for being so "spell it out for me"...it drives me nuts too!! lol

When you do that, do you bring the bobbin thread up too? Just wondered how that would work out..?

You always need to bring the bobbin thread up or it will create a mess on the back when it gets snarled into the stitches.

I also have a strait stitch machine and so far it will not bring the bobbin thread up, its driving me crazy.
Just got this setup and only practicing so far but do not like the machine. It is a big hassel to thread and I dont like the bobbin, I have always had drop ins.
I got the stitch regulator and love it but the needle stops down so cannot pull up bobbon thread when starting to sew.
Tried just turning the wheel by walking to back of machine but it will not pick up bobbin thread that way.
Once it starts sewing it sews fine, just cant get the bobbin thread up before sewing.
When loading the bobbin it has a cutting thread thingy that cuts it the right length for the bobbin. The top thread gets tangled into the stitchs if I dont hold it away to the left. Still trying to work this out.
    Got side tracked.
You will have to do a sample with a full bobbin and sew till it runs out, then you can judge how far a bobbin will go.
Not very far I found. Only one and a half rows on a lap quilt.

I have never had a problem getting the bobbin thread up with any machine....just roll the wheel on the side of the machine towards you. You should also be able to choose needle up/ down. I love the Juki, it sews wonderfully! What kind of machine do you have, that you can't bring the needle and/or bobbin thread up????

Its a Baby Lock Jane that the shop told me is a Brother machine. Baby Lock dosnt make machines, they are all made by different companies. Mine is the same as a Brother 1500 strait stitch that is set up on a frame so I have to do every thing sideways with it. To turn the wheel I have to walk arount to the back of the machine.
Im using a stitch regulator on it and love that part, my stitchs are so nice and even but it has to be in needle down mode.
In order to face the machine Id have to push it to the end of the frame. But guiss this is what I have to do cause cannot reach the wheel from the end of the machine facing me.

Ok, here is the link to an enlarged pic of your machine
    http://www.babylock.com/sewing/jane/

There are 2 gray looking buttons/ selections under the stitch length dial. The one on the right shows a double ended arrow....that is your needle up/ down button. I am sure if you just push that button, while holding the needle thread taught, the needle will come up and you can pull the needle thread upward until you see the bobbin thread looped on it. I would think the little light next to the button is lit when it's in the down position...

Im using a stitch regulator and it has to be in needle down to work.
The bobbin thread does get pulled up after I start sewing but then the top thread starts pulling into the stitchs so have to stop and cut it. So far that is working out ok.
I did pull the machine all the way to the end of the table and as long as I hold the top thread it pulls the bobbin thread up, but of course I cant use it down at the end of the table and cant turn the wheel when it is in any other position.
Problems are slowly getting worked out.
Thanks so much for your help and time spent researching.
Without everybodys help I never could have figured out all the things I needed to learn.
