    I never understood why the traditional way was made so complicated when it's easy to break down to squares and rectangles. I guess less seams.

    At the end of this tute, Jan shows directions for setting any quilt blocks on point. Her directions for cutting and adding the setting triangles are excellent.

    I like the idea for adding the "beveled frame" around the quilt before adding other borders, because at this point the entire quilt is on the bias and is very easy to get distorted. I usually measure one block width, multiply that by how many blocks are in the row and measure my strip carefully before cutting. Then make it fit.

    I made one a number of years ago in which the entire center of the quilt was baggy. I had stretched the first border too much when I put it on. The strip needs to be the right length and then each seam should be pinned in the correct place. It's too easy to get things very wavy if you aren't really careful here.
