Question The edge/binding of a wallhanging, what to do?

I am busy making a wallhanging all done by hand. The front is asian fabric deep jewel tones and the backing is navy with multicolored primary dots. The only binding I have in the house is turkey red and not enough. I was eyeing my muslin and my DMC floss................or the silk embroidery thread(not sure if this is durable as it is very delicate silk)

A very delicate crochet edge/binding perhaps? Using very thin ivory crochet yarn.
    A hand embroidered muslin binding?
An edge of fabric and some beads perhaps?
    Any other ideas perhaps?

Specific questions if any weavers read here, could I weave some binding using just DMC floss?

It would help to see a pic. But, in general, a binding is a frame, and should carry some "weight" around the quilt, so I would shy away from delicate lace edging. Most frames look best if they are darker than the item being framed, so if it is a jewel toned quilt, I would shy away from white/light muslin. Having said that, with the choices you have given, I would put a muslin binding on it and add weight and color with all kinds of hand embroidery and beads on the binding and maybe even a tiny inner boarder of lace edging pointing inward from the binding to the quilt. Hope this helps.

Without seeing a picture I might suggest doing a facing binding. That is where the binding is sewn on, turned to the back and all of the facing shows just on the back.

Yes, a picture would be helpful. There are too many unknowns to offer opinions. There are lots of interesting suggestions above but only you can envision them since we cannot see the wall hanging.

I agree. With anything this technical it helps us to give advice based on a photo. The binding is like a frame is for a painting.
