    Default Electric Quilt 7 Issues

I am very frustrated... I just bought/downloaded/installed the EQ7 software. I drew a block but when I switch to the color tab, only half the lines I drew show up so I can't color the block. I made sure all of my lines touch, so I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Is this something simple?

I have EQ 7 and have found it to be quite a challenge. I can't seem to get myself to repeat the tutorials (and don't use it enough to remember when I need same technique again). It is a great tool. But steep learning curve. Sorry can't help with your question, but there are lots of other folks here who are experts.

the lines you have drawn all touch, as you say. but you have not drawn enough lines. you cannot 'float' a square in the center of the edge or middle. try drawing lines from the blocks square to the outside edge so that it makes a sewable piece. do the same for the other square that is 'floating'. EQ does not know how to sew what you have drawn, so makes an incomplete result.

Some lines must touch the outer square to be recognized by the program. Note my blue lines in the illustration.

Hope that Gay's suggestion works. You have to include ALL the seams just like in piecing. It is a technical learning curve but the final results can be stunning.

It's all explained in the Help file too.

Gotcha! I did read the help files but didn't "get" that. Makes sense thinking about it from a piecing perspective. Thank you!!

Vistacruise, I received Eq7 for Christmas and agree with you. Tutorials for me so far are not that helpful and I hate sitting at the computer trying to figure things out. But for the money I will keep trying! I am sure it is a great program but learning curve does seem to be a bit steep. I will preserver ☺️

You do know they give online classes at EQ university? You might want to check into them.

There is a FREE beginner's class:

A group of us with EQ7 are meeting about once a month to exchange ideas on what we each know about the program. I purchased mine as a disc and received the manual, but one of the ladies did her's as a download. She decided to print off the manual into a notebook so she wasn't always flipping back and forth from the screen to her help screen. Also, I have the EQ design a quilt and EQ design a block books and find them REALLY helpful. They both have tutorials in each chapter for different types of blocks/quilts. At first I didn't actually walk through each tutorial, but once I did, I found it really helpful. And go back to different chapters like a reference book when I'm working in EQ. I highly recommend these books as they don't read like manuals, but are very user friendly. Also get signed up for the monthly newsletter so you get the weekly tips.
