    Default Elna SP stopped working

When I opened up the case to use my Elna SP it does not work. It was working fine when I put it away a couple of weeks ago. We have tried everything, plugging in to different outlets, changing light bulb, pushing the power cord in strongly, etc but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions from very knowledgable people on this board. I am kind of thinking it is the motor but we can't find anyway to get to the motor. My DH pulled out the connection from the machine where the pedal goes but couldn't find anything wrong. Could it be the pedal, but wouldn't the light come on even if the pedal didn't work? Just looking for some answers.

Do you have the manual? Is there a fuse that needs replacing?

Make sure your bobbin winder isn't engaged. That's what my problem was when this happened to me. The motor made a little hum but the needle wouldn't move when i stepped on the pedal. Duhh.

If I understand you correctly, nothing happens when you plug it in? I'd suspect your power cord first. With an older machine the cords get brittle, and when wound up in storage they can break a wire inside, where you can't see it. Your machine has an oddball type of plug on it...if your husband is handy he can rewire another cord onto the plug and see if it works. If not, I'd start searching for a power cord. For 15 bucks you can buy a new one and test that way..depends on how much you like the machine, if you want to put 15 bucks into it or not.

A friend of mine just had her Elna stop working while she was sewing, and took it in to see what was wrong and it was a fuse, so maybe check that. I didn't know their were fuses in our sewing machines.

I know you didn't say anything about needing a manual but I found this one thinking it would show where the fuse is but it didn't say anything about a fuse. Good luck! Maybe a quick call to a machine repair place could tell you where to locate the fuse.
