    Default Embroidered blocks for quilt

I want to make a quilt using embroidered blocks. Dilemma is: are 6" or 5 x 7 blocks okay or do I need to make 8" blocks. Also, what other things could be done with the 8" block. Right now I don't have the 8" hoop, but I can get it. Could I please get your opinions on this. . Thanks.

you can embroider any size blocks that you wish. if your pattern calls for larger blocks, just border the embroidered block to the size needed.

Do you have a pattern in mind or are you just trying to decide if the size of the blocks that you have are going to work on a quilt?
You could add sashing to your emboideries to make them large enough to fit a quilt pattern.

It is your quilt, make any size you have! I make whatever works, and it always works for SOMETHING! If it doesn't fit into a project for a specific person/goal then it makes a wonderful charity quilt. If some one person won't use a quilt because it has the 'wrong' sized squares then they can't be too cold. Many people would absolutely love to have your quilt. Just saying........ Wow. I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for listening.

I probably worded my question wrong. What I have are 5 x 7, 6" square , and 6 x 10 hoops. I was wondering if I needed to use 8" blocks to make a nice embroidered block for a quilt, or if I could use what I have. Was thinking about a new machine for the 8", but I will save money and use what I have. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

In a word, No. It's your quilt and you can make your squares any size you like. I like to work out the size of my blocks before I embroider.

I find that any size block is workable as long as all blocks are the same size. Then you can use any sashing pattern and expand it to whatever size quilt you would like.

Are you doing hand or machine embroidery? I did hand embroidery and just moved the hoop.
