Im in the market for a new/used machine.
But I would like one that I can do work on my computer then send it to the emb machine.
The Singer futura does this, but I'm not sure I want a singer
what are your thoughts.

I have the Singer futura ce100 I have been pleased with it but I do more sewing on it than embroidery. I do like having the embroidery feature. For the price I got the best of both worlds. I just couldn't go into the thousand and up dollar range.

I have a Singer Futura CE-350. It's about 3 years old. The only problem I've had is the bobbin tension going wonky after a difficult software upgrade. Don't ask me how that could affect the tension!!!??? Coincidence, perhaps......

And I need to replace the plastic bobbin cover. Dropped it and broke a fastening tab off...plastic!

Their digitizing software is very lacking, if you plan on digitizing anything. No manual or instructions came with that part of the software. It's been learn-as-you-go for me.

It was not my first choice. Hubby had the last word on that...$$$. But, I've been pleased with what I can do with it.

My avatar is an embroidered quilt block I did on it recently.

do you design on your computer,(clip art or something) and then embroidery. Or isn't it that easy.
Do other lower end machines do that also?

No, I buy designs from a few favorite embroidery design websites.

I've only digitized one design, and getting it right took a couple of weeks (and lots of embroidery thread to test stitch it out numerous times until I was satisfied).

That's why I said their digitizing software was very lacking. No instructions...at all...on how to create your own design. Nothing on their website that I could find, either.

Why not take a look at the Janome 350e? You probably could get it for just under the $1,000 mark. My dealer a little bit back had them for 979.

I should also say that mine came with some clipart installed and a clipart CD that digitizes wonderfully with the Singer software. Just finding something you want to digitize, and doing it, is a pain.

Largest hoop size is about 4.5x7".

Have you looked into Embird software? I've had it ever since I started embroidery 20+ years ago and couldn't get along without it. =)

Not trying to hijack, Darlene's thread. Just wanted to let her know that if she desires to make her own digitized files, then the Futura is probably not a good choice. I do love my machine for embroidering purchased designs.

The Futura reads many different file extensions, for Brother-Bernina-Babylock, Husqvarna Viking, Janome, Pfaff, Tajima, etc.

I've looked at Embird. Would love to have it...but that old disease lackamoney prevents it. ::sigh:: Maybe one day.
