I'm in the Yukon where in the winters it's cold and it's dark. The windows are really cold when I'm using them to trace (at 2 in the afternoon at work during my coffee break as that's the warmest time of day here...plus we have sun then).
So up to you and what you need it for...how much light you get where you'll be tracing, etc.

If you have a plexi glass sewing extension on your machine, just put a little "moonlight" from a hardware store under it and you have a light table...dont have to store it anywhere. The moonlights are just a few dollars.

i made one from an old drawer and hinged on a piece of plexiglass. used the undercabinet flourescent lights from walmart. several sizes and they link together. works great. used for many years with a piece of white tissue paper taped underneath to diffuse the light. then found the stained glass window paint at one of the craft stores and painted the underside white. that works very well. (i also painted the inside of the drawer bright white before i put in those light fixtures)
