I have Carbona Stain Devil #1 (acetone-based remover for nail polish and adhesive). But the instructions call for soaking the fabric and then rinsing it. I am scared to soak the quilt top with water before it has been sandwiched. I might have to go this route, though.

I wouldn't waste any more time stressing over it. It will be fine once you get it quilted and washed. The residue won't spread or leak through. It will stay on top of the fabric where it is and probably help hold the batting in place. So it could be a win.

What brand of double sided tape did you use....perhaps it is a type of adhesive that washes out. Try a test piece to see if you can get it to wash out on it. Best wishes!
