At first I just used the Elmer’s glue stick to attach fabric to paper, then used thread to hold fabric in place when folded over. Took a break and read about using glue for the fold over. I did a LOT that way, with glue still holding the fabric to paper.

My sister recently wondered how hard it would be to take paper out when needed. I tried to with an individual one and wow! I don’t know what to do!

While it would be sad to see all those hexies undone, I’d rather do it now, but should I be ready to accept the fabric won’t be reusable?

I use a glue stick to baste my EPP pieces. I run a very thin line of glue along the outer edge of my fabric, fold it over, turn to next edge & repeat. When all sides are folded over I give the piece a quick press with the iron. The pieces stay crisply held, there is no glue to try to stitch through and popping out the papers when it’s time is easy. Been doing it this way for years.

I've over-glued some of my EPP pieces before. I went ahead and stitched them into the blocks, then waited to remove the papers until I normally would. I used a damp (not soaking wet) washcloth to dampen the fabric, then right away used a butter knife to "scoot" the now-damp fabric off the back of the paper pieces. Yes, it is a little messy and not the ideal situation, but I don't want to waste the fabric or the time I spend fussy cutting and basting.

you might try using a needle or pin to run the point between the fabric and paper to split the bond - doesn't work all the time but worth the try.

You could try ironing them- the heat may melt the glue enough to pop the papers out.

I just watched a video of Sue Daley's. She says hit it with steam & the glue will release from the paper for you, then you can just slide a stiletto or something similar between the paper & the fabric for the release.
