This winter I bought EQ7. Took the time to do the lessons in the book and in the EQ lessons in the Help in the program itself. Also started to do the lessons on EQ's web site. I am still having fun learning.Accuquilt had a challenge or something that made me think that Accuquilt studio & EQ would work together. LOL I am not there yet. Think if I can learn it it will be worth it.
I have both an Accuquilt Studio and EQ7 and I use both for very different purposes. The only way I can think of making an accuquilt cut quilt design on EQ would be to restrict the piece shapes and sizes to those available as dies. I think this would add a huge layer of complexity to the design process especially as you would have to 'place' pre-sized pieces in a block until you had a design you liked and that means treating them as applique while you are playing with them. Once you find a design then it can be finalized in Easy Draw but that seems awfully tiresome to me. At that point I cut construction paper pieces and use them like jigsaw pieces and then draw the final product.

I only use my Accuquilt to cut repetitive pieces that I use for scrap stash like 5" squares, strips and certain size hexes that are really time consuming to cut by hand.

I have EQ5 and no book. I'm playing with it and have designed several quilts with it. Sure having problems tho learning it. I was so excited awhile back because I found the book on the sale rack at a LQS with no price on it. I took to the register to buy it and they said "OH you can't buy that. It isn't for sale." I was SO mad.

I'm finding this topic very useful. Lets keep it going. I'm learning things I didn't know before!

mzsooz, I'm sure I am not speaking just for myself when I say there are a lot of quilters here who are happy to answer any questions. If one of us doesn't know the short answer, someone else will. Hang in there.

Mzsooz, I sent you Pm, you should check out Amazon Used books. There are several copies listed of Getting Started book, that came with the software. I bought all the EQ5 books that I have from this site. The books were for the most part like new or were never used( could tell from the binding that the book hadn't been opened)
    Hope this helps, Chris

I love love my EQ5. I have been working with full size quilts lately. I usually design quilt blocks but am branching out. I love the convenience of my EQ5. I just bought EQ6 recently and am just starting to check it out.

EQ5 was the best thing I ever bought. I have debated on the EQ7. Maybe in time I will get it. Right now the 5 does what I need and 6 is proving to be interesting but I don't know if it is all that much more than the 5. There are some things I prefer in 5 over 6.

I haven't done anything with applique or embroidery in it tho. I could still learn a thing or two about 5 if I want to try new things beyond what I usually do.

So after you design the blocks do you make them? Just wonderin how the actual compares to the computer generated.

I don't necessarily but other people have made my designs. they translate very well. The colors will be differant depending on the fabric used but the design is just the same.

I design the block and then I explode the design out so you can see the individual blocks I used. It makes it easy to see how to put the quilt block together. I don't know alot about the functions in EQ for teaching a quilt block. I know there is a function that will show the quilt block seperated but it only does it in black and white in EQ5. I haven't done anything with it in EQ6 to see if it is the same or improved.

I have EQ7 that I got for Christmas. I have designed my own quilt, printed fabric requirements and rotary cutting instructions. I just used the book and online videos. I also put it on my laptop so I can play when I'm on vacation or at sports practice.

Very nice blocks, Rhonda. They do look very much like the computer generated. Right now I have the buggy wheels block but haven't actually put one together yet.
