Hi! Fran, I sort of understand! I purchased EQ5 just before v.6 came out and never really learned how to use it. I had gone through the Getting Started manual and because I use machine embroidery software; I sort of got the concept of the program but couldn't put all the bits and pieces from the manual together to design a quilt.
Doing the mystery lessons from the EQ website, have helped me so much. At the time I didn't know that Judy could have helped but now I'd doing things I never thought I would ever do. I working on the mystery quilt now but when I finish it I plan to start one of the other tutorials. For me, I think this was the best way to learn how to use the program. Chris

Wow we all spent a lot of money for something we don't use. I have EQ7 and have no clue thinking of going to quilt university or yahoo.

Quilt University is good, so are the videos that are in the v. 6 & 7 software, if you have it.

Hi! I hope this link comes through because it says what I've been trying to tell myself about learning new things, starting a few years ago when I just started learning how to use a computer, then the embroidery machine and most recently learning how to use EQ. Its been a great reminder not to let what I think as a "hurdle" stop me from doing those things that I want most to do. It's just a matter of starting it! Hugs, Chris

Someone asked me this question, so I thought it might benefit all of us here:

Please help me. I just got a use copy of EQ5 with upgrade on embroidery patterns for ebay. My question is how do I get the embroidery designs out of EQ5 and in to my embroidery machine to make my embroidery quilt.

    This was my answer:

The embroidery designs do not actually come with EQ. The designs are on Amazing Designs software. They just let you play with them in EQ, so you can see how they look on your quilt before you purchase the designs.

I wish they were included, but they don't come that way.

    I hope this helps!

I find mixing embroidery and EQ a little bit tricky. I find it works best if I sae my designs as picture files and then treat them as pictures on the quilt to get a basic idea of how it will look.

You can use the included "designs" the same way but then substitute with the designs you have on hand.

Andover Fabrics now has a collection of their fabrics available to us in zip files full of jpgs. Not all of them, but a lot - I spent this morning adding to my libraries.

I didn't know about this until yesterday, so I hope it helps someone else, too. Lots of Jo Morton's collections here. :)

I have just gotten EQ7. I have gotten a great deal of help from telephone tech support. All of the ladies are very helpful and very tolerant of us "older" students.

Jo Ann, Hope you enjoy using the program and I know the tech support is always helpful. When you're ready, there are some great tutorials on the EQ website, click on Fun Stuff and there are lessons for EQ7.
And Quilt University has tutorials that you purchase, that will be a tremendous help in learning how to get the most out of this program. Chris
