By 4 a.m. this morning, I had a quilt in the frame ready to quilt. Stopped and done my daily house work, got hubby off to work, showered, ran to Wal-mart, came home, fixed a big pot of sweet potato chowder for supper. Then I called my sister and my son and my daughter so they wouldn't call and interrupt me while I was quilting. Started snowing, which I can see from my window while I am quilting. Perfect. Everything was ready for me to quilt away the afternoon. I came downstairs, cranked up the oldies on my computer. Stitched about 2 inches and the freaking needle broke. No problem, changed the needle, ready to go. For the last hour, I have been trying to figure out why my thread keeps breaking. I rethreaded (about a dozen times), I changed the bobbin, checked all my settings, even changed the needle again. Oh and I even changed the spool of thread, even though i had used part of this spool on the last quilt I did. I finally gave up and went back upstairs. But I was restless, I WANT TO QUILT!!! So I am back downstairs ready to try again. If we get all of the snow and the high winds they are predicting I know my husband will be home tomorrow and I will only have a few hours the whole day to quilt. If I could only get the maching to cooperate, I could be finished before he gets home and put the binding on tomorrow. I will quit whining now, I just needed to vent. I guess if I keep having troubles, I will just have to cut out a new quilt while the machine "rests" until tomorrow.

Oh no! I hate when things like that happen- I hope you get it figured out or it resolves itself!

take a deep breath...maybe there is just one tiny little thing wrong..like maybe even if you have always used that thread maybe there is a faulty section...or maybe you havent put something up or down...anyway hope you find the problem!

Don't blame you a bit for needing to vent....I had that happen once and ended up taking my machine in for service, because I had tried SIMPLY EVERYTHING! Turns out that I really needed to make sure that my needle was full in the up position before threading the machine. I have a Janome Memory Craft 4900 and there is a push button that allows you to raise or lower the needle. I finally got a tech that realized that I wasn't using the button to make sure that the needle was in the right position before I threaded the machine. He explained that because of the threading pattern of the machine, if I didn't do that, a step (internally) would be missed. Haven't had that problem since and I'm in love with my machine again. :)

I was having trouble last night with my thread breaking and I was quilting over an area that was applique with a fusible. It occurred to me to use a larger needle and the problem was solved. Maybe your solution is simple too. It will jump at you when you are not expecting it.

Finally I got it working. Not sure what the problem was. I cleaned her this morning, although I had just done that two days ago. Changed the needle, rethreaded, changed the bobbin. Then I talked really nice to her and when I plugged her in, away we went. The top is almost quilted now.

YAY! A happy ending, after all. And before hubby comes home and takes your time away!

Sometimes just patience and redoing everything 15 times will solve the problem!!! LOL
