WOW ! This thread is just what I needed today. I'm just learning to quilt although i've sewed for years and even taught English smocking before.....made wedding dresses, crocheted a bathing suit, tailored my ex husband's clothes, but never quilted. I realized earlier this year that this is something I needed and wanted to do. Having suffered a heart attack and stroke last fall and having painful depression, I needed something to give me something to look forward to each day.

I've taken a class at the LQS which was not that much help....I only learned what I was doing wrong rather than how to construct a quilt ! I'm a great self-teacher so I've set out to self teach myself about quilting so I've been like a sponge to learn all I can. The QB folks have been great as far as encouraging me, educating me and continuing to challenge me.

I've made 3 quilt tops, have a couple more in progress and am getting the nerve to start hand or maybe machine quilting one of the tops.

One of the most important lessons I've learned here is that it isn't always the finished product but the love, care, thought and hours that go into creating a quilt, whether as a work of art or a dog bed ! I'm so glad that I've found this board and appreciate each of you that contribute, otherwise I probably would have given up since I don't feel like I'll ever create an incredible quilt but WILL create quilts that are filled with love and heart.

    Thank you again !

To me an incredible quilt is one that is made with love and used and loved by the person it is given to.

Thank you for this posting. I am a lot older than you, but you learned that valuable lesson much sooner. Rock on girl!

What ? Not many are older than me ! I turned 64 in March and look forward to a lot of good years quilting. When I first had my heart attack and was forced to retire from work I was really depressed......kept thinking I don't have a career, what is my future and what am I going to do now...THEN, I found quilting ! THEN I found the QB! what a blessing.
