Why not simply say it's an Art Quilt--for that is exactly what it is...Art!!! Congratulations, it is a beautiful piece of art!

Oh your photo didn't show up earlier when I was replying, how beautiful is that.

Yes, there is a whole area of quilting referred to as Art Quilts and that is what you do...and they can be huge or they can be tiny. Enjoy your art quilting.

    8. to make quilts or quilted work.

I guess #2 could be stretched to include your guild project, but I think I'd be more inclined to qualify it as well with a descriptive adjective. Rather than just "quilt", I'd maybe call it a "hanging quilt".
    I would say it falls under #2, #5, #6, #7 and #8 That's 60% compliant. Passes as a "quilt". And that's the truth!

That's not just a quilt, that's an awesome quilt. I love it.

    It's beautiful!

To me, a "quilt" as in the first definition given above indicates...that it is usually a covering related to a bed.

We have quilted purses, potholders, and such, but no one I that I know of calls them "quilts". They call them what they are. Depending on the size of your quilt, I'd call it a wallhanging, or as someone suggested, a "work of art" that you quilted.

But that's just me. I've seen people advertise on ebay a "quilt" and then I look closely and it's about 12-15" square. (The pics were taken in such a way it was hard to tell the size by the picture alone--had to read carefully to see the size)

I am not sure the issue will ever be resolved once and for all. ;)

I think a quilt is something that you have three layers too. Top, back, insides that you sew together.
