I have a mess on my hands and with it have lots of extra 2.5" HST.

I am making a broken dishes quilt in black and white. My squares are 3.5 unfinished and I am using the Debbie Caffey method for HST. I was supposed to get 10 to 14 HST per 10x18 panel but I didn't. As we all have come to learn not all Fat Quarters are 18 squares after prewashing and trimming off the selvage. So from each panel I have 6-8 3.5" HST and 4 or 5 2.5" HST. And I am short almost 100 3.5" HST.

What do I do with all the leftovers. I will have some 3.5" squares leftover that are of the same black and white prints but not a lot. I thought about adding another color to them but what to do.

Anybody have ideas, pics of something, etc? Thanks!!!!

You didn't say what your quilt is for. If it's for a bed you can always use the extras to make a throw pillow or a table topper to go on a nightstand. If it's a wall handing, use the extras to make a table topper or coasters. And, yes, you can add other colors to them. Such as, if the original is a wall hanging and you're going to use the left over 3 1/2" blocks for coasters you could put a bright 1" border around them. You could use the same color or different ones for each block. They could be regular colors or brights. You get to be the creator so create. Hold one of them up to your stash and audition each fabric as you move it around. See what jumps out at you and that's what you want to use.

You can do a 6x6 block of the 2.5" hst and still end up with 12.5" unfinished blocks to arrange with the standard 4x4 blocks of the broken dishes.

You can take what is left over and make your binding and trim your quilt with it.

Use the leftovers to make some sort of design on the back of the quilt. Many people are doing this and it looks wonderful!
