I look at quilting as "no rules" type of activity. If you can dream it you can do it. Go for it.

That's the best thing about quilting. It's Ok to change things up to suit your personality. I can't wait to see your quilts. Bet it will be beautiful.

I would choose the fabrics that "I" liked...you are the one who is going to be using the quilt, you should be able to make it your way!!!

I would do as you like. I think it would look great. I am currently working on a applique quilt that was shown on the cover of BHG Am. Patchwork & Quilting AUG07. Instead of 30's fabric, I am using a turqoise batik base fabric and lots of bright colors.

Go for it and enjoy the class. :-)

I agree with Loretta. Brights on black would look great. Do what you like because after all it is your quilt. I like to think of quilting as a do your own thing kind of activity because I break so many sewing "rules".

Get fabric that you love. If you don't love the fabric, it will
detract from the enjoyment of the project. The fun of
quilting to me is being able to do my "own take" on a pattern
    to make it "my own".

I love the pattern and think a lot different possibilities would work.

Just remember to post a picture when you're done!
