I've fallen off the wagon, but with mostly good intentions. I'm making a jar quilt for my great-nephew so bought black Kona today at Hobby Lobby with my 40% coupon. However on Tues. went to a nice shop with my quilt group and we got 25% off everything. Started out good with only some fabric for the jars, but we went back after lunch and I got 2 1/2 yds of a pretty asian print that I want to make a jacket out of. Don't know when the jacket will get done. My mind is swimming with ideas of things I want to make and I'm getting nowhere fast. It helps knowing that you are all here to support my slips.

Well I am still here and hanging in there, only one purchase since we started this Moratorium and that fabric was for a specific purpose and only fat quarters.
Since Cyclone Yasi decided to pay us a visit I have decided to reorganise ALL my fabric, so far I have about half of it done, all the fat quarters are together, the scraps have been colour coded and all in wire baskets, anything over 2 yards I am rolling onto cardboard and making mini bolts, now to start on the one yard lengths. the best part is I am finding fabric I forgot I had and I have a really tidy sewing room. Have not sewn for 3 weeks now and am in serious withdrawal mode.
Will set my machine back up tomorrow I hope, I have a few projects I have to get finished

I think the best part of this "challenge" is that we actually think before we buy.

I have been doing very well. Our LQS is having 40% off all fabric so it has been a challenge. I have a list compiled of fabrics I need to complete projects or for backings...so far I've found it liberating knowing that I've committed to not buy fabric, now if I could only get that to work for not eating junk food.

I have a new great grandson arriving soon so dug out a cute fish panel and added a couple of borders, put in fleece for a batting and found a piece of a red/white mini stripe for backing. Did have to buy a spool of thread to quilt it, but that is allowed, so hanging on for now. The top is so busy with fish, seahorses, seaweed, crabs, and stars that I needed a varigated thread for quilting. It's going to be real cute!

I just found your moratorium tonight and joined although I will say I've been working really hard in this direction since Dec. I've been asking myself, "Do I really NEED this?" My SIL owns what used to be my DM fabric store, and the only thing I bought was sashing for a quilt. I was proud to say, "No, that will be all."
My sis bought material for curtains for her new home and I sewed them up in couple hours. A couple weeks later, in Jan, I asked my DH if he thought that material would be suitable for us for curtains and he gave me approval to make the purchase. The material was on clearance and I went to 2 stores (one 70 miles away) to get the 23 yards needed. I've fixed up the hall to the upstairs and the kitchen, now to my youngest son's bedroom and then the livingroom before making the curtains (by May's graduation).
I haven't been on the web much or out shopping (weather and work had a hand there too) so everything went smooth until yesterday. It was a beautilful day, I got out of the house (without a leash). I finally bought a chenielle cutter I've waited 3 months+, and fabric marking pencils (all at 50% off). Then I went to Mill End Textiles, bought background fabric for a baby quilt, and failed to resist the Boyd's Bears fabric which lead to coordinates and backs for 3 more baby blankets. I bought batting elsewhere yesterday, the rest of what they had at two stores, discontinued.
Although some of this was needed, and is allowed, I feel guilty for that which was impulse spending. I'll try to post my WIPs Mon. (earlier if we get the snow and ice that's predicted). I'll have to start making Xs on the calendar or making sure my guys are with me to keep me accountable.

I broke my last needle the other day and had to go buy some more. While in the store I looked around at fabric for about an hour. I found a couple of fabrics I liked but resisted the temptation. I keep remembering I need to create space in my sewing room. I do NOT want to expand my sewing into other rooms of the house. I left with only the needles. I have several WIP's that I am working on. I am behind on baby quilts for the little ones that my nieces and nephews are having. Once I finish 2 more I will be out of batting and it is looking like I will need a backing for at least one of them. So far so good.

Good for you! That's the idea, "only what you need."

    Here's one of my WIPs

And the 2nd WIP, pieces were are all cut 4 months ago.

Finally, 56 piece balloons for a baby quilt.

This quilt was a guild round robin 2009 - 2010. Each member provided the fabric and the boxes were exchanged during the guild meetings. It was a no peaking exchange so we couldn't see our blocks until after they were all completed. I used scraps left over from the quilt to assemble the top and for the back. Since I've not been buying fabric I sent it out to a friend for quilting on her Statler Stitcher. I LA at our LQS but I wanted one quilted by my friend and since all the blocks were made by guild friends.

    MarieM,
Your quilt is very nice. Now you have a memory provided by all your friends. I like the pieced back.
