okay, so have a batik that is bleeding. and I can't remember if it is retain or syntrope that you treat the fabric with to stop the bleeding. its not in a quilt yet thank goodness.

I used Retayne with good results. Followed the directions on the bottle.

Retayne is used to set the dye before a fabric is put into the quilt. Synthrapol is used either before or after making the quilt. It doesn't set the dye, but it suspends the dye particles in water so that they won't settle on the fabric. Read directions carefully - lots of hot water needed.

The easy way to remember is that "Retayne" sounds like the word "retain" ... to retain in place. Retayne "retains" the dye. The other stuff (synthrapol) will not set it but will suspend it so it doesn't bleed onto everything else.

Retayne helps set the dye so there will be little or no dye released in the wash. The color catcher catches the dye that floats in the wash.

How do you purchase the two recommended ways? I was thinking that synthrapol might compare with Shout Color Catcher. Thanks for reply.
