I made a flannel quilt and entered it in the fair. As the judge was looking at it, she said "Wow, this quilter used really good fabric!" It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut because I bought all of the flannel at Walmart!!!

I was just in our Walmart the other day, and the lady told me our fabric dept. will be dissappearing. I really love some of there fabrics. I called the 1-800 number, but she sounded like it was already decided!

I'm fortunate to still have a WM that sells fabrics and many times it has saved me an hour trip to a JA or Hancocks.

I made a lot of noise at the corporate level when our Wal-Mart was clearancing their fabrics. I do love my LQS and the wonderful fabrics there. But in thinking of others, many sewers aren't just quilters and all they need are basic sewing supplies & notions. I must not have been the only one, because we do have a small aisle of fabrics & misc sewing supplies.

All the fabric depts in Wal-Mart are closing. It will just take a few more years to get to them all.

I have to wonder about the judge. :hunf:

Are they really? That really sucks, places like my little town a Walmart is all that is available to buy any type of sewing stuff. We just got a LQS, before that it was a 2-3 hour trip to ANY type of craft/quilt store.

Walmart came in all these little towns and put all the little stores out of business, then they aren't even going to sell all the stuff that they did. That sucks, it really sucks.

I disagree about the judge, though. I have found some good fabric at Walmart. I'm sure her quilt was great.
