It's so funny that you mention "Snail Trail". Not long ago, my DS made some off-hand comment about a quilt & he referred to that pattern. I didn't think he paid a whit of attention to my quilting, but I guess I was wrong!

I made a TV watching quilt for my husband for Christmas last year. There was a quilt on the cover of Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting (I think) in Oct. called "pick up sticks". I made it in brown, tan, and beige and turquoise and aqua. The pattern was designed to use 5" squares. The idea is to split the 5" square and sew a one inch strip down the middle (reveal is 1/2"). I used 2 1/2" strips instead, but worked out just the same. It has a brown and tan triangle border and a brown border, backed with flannel. I really like this quilt, colors are very pleasing. And bonus! I ended up with lots of extra for my stash. I am in Kodiak. Where are you? So glad summer is finally here.

I am making a quilt with the twister tool and pattern in homespun. It was just to see if I would like plaids with this pattern. My DH liked it so much he wants it to become a king and use it on our bed. Still trying to figure how I'm going to do that LOL

What quilt patterns do you make for the men in your life? I would like to make a quilt each for some male family members for Christmas this year. I tried the search engine but must not have phrased it correctly as I didn't get much info on this topic. I liked the search engine on the old board better.
Thanks

I'd think almost any pattern would work for a guy, the main concern would be the choice of colors and fabrics. Thank goodness, batiks are pretty gender neutral in design.

I got my email from Free Patterns today & the featured pattern was one designed by a guy for guys. It's neat, too! Here's a link to the pattern --->

Wow, what wonderful ideas. I am creating my significant other a small lap size quilt or possibly a pillow case using 2" squares of old pillow cases, solid material and a manly fleece remnant I found on sale that has deer, a moose and a bear throughout the fleece. I'm using a buttery yellow, olive color green and thinking of doing a border of dark brown as all of these colors are within the fleece. I plan to use the fleece for the back as well. It is a learning project for me as I am still a newbie but it will be made with love and I'm hoping he is able to see the effort of creating it for him for Father's day.

I have one bachelor son who can afford anything he wants, who buys without any female influence. He ALWAYS buys quilts for his beds (3) in simple 12" blocks in beige/tan tones in washable faux suede. No sashing, stitch in the ditch. It sounds boring, but the design element in his bedrooms is not on his bed but on the decoration on his walls. His rooms look like room illustrations in Urban Living.

For his 80th Birthday, I made a Civil War Quilt. I had the center for pictures, and quotes from A. Lincoln and pictures of the main battlefields. He loved that also.
I say go with what he likes the most in reading books, ect, ect. My DH happens to love Civil War and all that goes with it!
Mariah.
