Janome 6600 - Boy oh boy has this machine made a HUGE difference for me. Just totally unbelievable. Piecing is soooo much more easy and fun!!

I have a janome 9500 memory craft - my work horse
I have a janome plat jem- my travel machine
then I have a 1951 Singer 15 in a cherry cabinet-gave this away twice and it just keeps coming back-thank goodness!
and a 1957 Singer 99k I just brought home
Think I need a 301 and possibly featherweight! Maybe a treadle, longarm? I already started overflowing out of the sewing room into my dh's den! Yikes

have any of you thought about some of the younger women that you know and thought about sharing a machine that you don't use too much to teach them to sew and share the quilting bug?
I would give my extra machine to my friend but my mom is already getting it and my sil is getting my moms old one.
this is just a thought. those that have more than 4 machines you are truly privileged to have so many. sharing one with a new wife of mommy that doesn't have a lot of money would be a wonderful gift to that mommy or wife. plus you will just have created a new quilter. I know that if I had someone not only share with me how to quilt but offered me one of their machines I would have been truly grateful. I was lucky to have a wonderful lady offer to sell me her old janome so that she could get a new machine. her hubby said that she couldn't get a 6-7th machine unless one left the house. just a thought.

I have a Pfaff 7550 and a Pfaff 2144 so I have two machines. I also have a serger, a Pfaff, of course.

And, a GREAT thought at that!

Last summer my DIL was visiting us at our home. I have been offering to help her sew for a long time. She went to one of my guild meetings and became VERY enthused about learning after show n' tell. (thank you members for all the quilts you shared)

She had her mini van with her so I gave her my Red Eye Singer 66 with a treadle style cabinet. We sat down and I started her sewing on a nine-square block. She has been going ever since. She treasures the machine and me getting her started. It has given me so much pleasure! It didn't cost me as much as a new machine would cost. DIL recently began to keep it in her dining room so she can sew when the kids are occupied in the afternoon.

3.)bernina 440 QE two years old (but new to me) with the BSR and emb module

4.)Memory Craft janome 3 years old

5.)my moms old portable singer from 1950

Oh! I have a babyLock serger too. Six I guess...

They all run great and I have them seviced regularly.

Nope...I only have one, too! My new Elna I got last year. My old Kenmore finally made it out of the garage and to my DD's, where it's currently serving as a table in her living room.

That being said, some day, when I have time to take classes, I'd like something smaller and more portable. The "Queen" is technically portable, but is kinda heavy. I took her to one class, and it was a workout! Maybe a Janome Jem Platinum. Any suggestions on a good portable lightweight machine?

I do that all the time. I love giving them away. I request that if they do not use it as they thought that they might or get a new machine that they give them back to me so I can pass it on again. The other thing that I do is keep all my notes on the machine that was given to me. For example I have one that was great grandma XXX's machine and it has been sitting in someone's garage as no one sews. They dropped it off at my doorstep. I told them that if any one of the youngsters deceided to start sewing to let me know and I will give the machine back to the family. I have a strong belief that these machines should be back in the family home.

I only have 3 & everyone around here thinks I'm crazy. (Why do you need 3 machines they ask) Well I use all 3 almost daily. I have an old Brother XR40 another Brother 6000i & my Husqvarna Viking Mega Quilter with the Next Generation frame. People that don't sew I guess just don't get it! LOL
Oh I also have a Singer serger that I've had at least 5 years & have never used it. I keep thinking I'll take the time & get to know it but haven't yet.
Someday I would love to have a embroidery machine but we'll see.
