    so many materials- so many different ways to make quilts !LOL
    My first was a 3 stripper, oldest granddaughter has it, and it was made to the book specs, but now I see so many different ways it can be made !

    There are different ways. I have one with 6 rails at 1 1/2' width.

    My avatar is a king size split rail pattern with six rails. There is a small inside border of a batik w/most of the rail colors in it, then a wider border of the darker, dominate rail fabric.

    Rail fence can be set many different ways
    I've posted these before, but did again to give you a look

    I made one in red,black and white.It turned out real nice.The pic is on here---somewhere!! about 8 months ago.

    My husband made a rail fence (3 strips) and then set them on point...different way to lay out a traditional block. Here's a closeup of his quilt.
