There's a Tony Jacobson pattern in an issue of Easy Quilts from a few years ago that looks like film strips.

I've seen it done with a black and white stripe bordered by black strips the same width of the black stripe.

Just throwing this out there, but if you daughter is young enough, she may not know what film strips are. My kids have only ever known digital cameras...
