I am with you, Dunster! However, I have tried to tell myself I need to finish the 5 or 6 things I have going before I cut out another one. I happen to love each one of them...just couldn't wait to start another...sigh...I am in the process of creating a sewing room so I can shut the door and not have to pick it all up every time I sew. You would think that with only me in this house that could be "doable"! I think (hope) that will take care of my problem...I will have more time to devote to sewing and less to sweeping up threads! LOL

When I am hand quilting, I just leave everything next to where I sit when I watch tv. It is so easy to pick up, even if I'm only sitting a few minutes at a time. It seems that it gets done so quickly. I don't like the pressure of feeling that I have to get a quilt done. The key for me is to leave things next to the sewing machine (or couch) so it is easy to pick up. If I have to spend time getting ready to sew, I just don't make much progress. I am lucky that I have a sewing room, and my husband gets the garage!

For me, it's about blocking out some quality time to do something that makes me happier and more relaxed. Not to add yet another chore or 'should' to the long list of what needs to be done.

How about putting a moratorium on starting new projects until the ones you have are done. And be reasonable about that. I just went through all of my UFO's, and selected the ones I REALLY wanted to finish. That cut the pile down to a third the size. I gave a box of quilt tops to a charity for them to finish off, and they were delighted. And some things I just trashed because I had grown to hate it and was never going to finish it, and it wasn't done enough to give to the charity. What was I thinking with some of that fabric and those color combinations! Yikes! Now the only projects waiting for me are things I want to do, and that makes it so much easier to walk into my sewing room doing the happy dance!

sounds good to me. I find that when I write things down I get more done. Last year I would dedicate on evening to sewing. My DH was supportive of that and encouraged me. Time to get back to that. The calendar may be just the trick.

Been in that club for the past two years. Have completed many I am happy to say. still have more to go. guess I'm a lifetime member. lol.

The UFO threads have very helpful to me. I am a person who is easily distracted so I end up being busy all the time but i get scattered across too many projects so nothing really gets done and that gets pretty discouraging! I need to plan so I can stay focused. I also tend to get lost in the thinking stage instead of the doing stage so I put the other projects out of sight and that keeps me motivated to work at what's on my wall instead. Think about the others later!

My goal for the coming year is to sew for my enjoyment. If I finish a UFO, great, if not it'll still be waiting til later. I love sewing and don't like to pressure myself to work on any project, unless it's needed by a certain date. I've been participating in the fabric moratorium 2013 and using only my stash when I can. Quilting is my hobby, and I don't want to start feeling like its a job. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Have a blessed and productive New Year. May all your points match, seams lie flat, colors match to your liking, fabrics play nice, but most of all be thankful that we have the privilege to do what we want in this great country.

I hate to be the rotten egg in the crowd, but I do one thing at a time. I may plan for my next project and put it on a Stickie, but , no I only have one project in the works. I do have a Christmas quilt that is cross stitch, satin and straight stitch and I have been working on that for four years now. I take it with me when I go somewhere and want to keep the old hands busy. BUt Quilting?????? No! One thing at a time. For one thing, it pushes me to complete a quilt or whatever I am making and two, it makes me finish what I have started and not put a quilt in the works on a back burner. Finish what I start and then go on to the next. Plan ahead for what you want to do - pick out the colors, write it down in a notebook, and then set it aside and finish up what you have started. I can enjoy what I am working on without having to think "Hey, I have to hurry up here and get this done." This is why I enjoy quilting. I don't have to rush. If I don't sew today, I can sew tomorrow. Which reminds me - I am taking the tree down today and am putting my sewing back in its place for 2014. If I get to sew, fine, if not, I'll put the ornaments and Christmas decorations away. Whatever and whenever I feel. I have two pair of quilted curtains that I had to put away to put the tree up and this is what I am going to do when the machine is ready to go. Have a great day. Edie
