I just finished my first attempt at paper piecing and am not sure if I like the process or not. I did learn several things - 1. It is a messy process, scraps and thread everywhere 2. There is so much back and forth between sewing machine, ironing board and cutting mat 3. the hardest part is the first two pieces 4. this pattern is not good for prints.

With that all said, I do like the way the practice block turned out (future pot holder) and will buy fabric to make the quilt. But there will definitely need to be some changes - gonna buy a wooden tv tray to set beside my sewing machine to use small iron and small cutting mat - otherwise I am back and forth between 3 different rooms. Just can't get anything accomplished that way!

Now it's off, with pattern in hand, to buy fabric!

I pp and by the time i'm done with one block I have new carpet... Laughing....I keep my ironing board close to me and when I cut, i just cut a chunk of fab and make it work once I know the pattern ... some cut out the pattern to give a better idea of the size of fab they need.

That's the way that I do it! Iron on the left hand side of the machine and a small cutting board on the right. I can get a lot done that way. In the P.P. class that I took, the teacher recommended getting the smaller size rotary cutter, 35mm, and it works get on the blocks.

Once you start on the quilt, you can start chain piecing and it isn't as much back and forth then :D:D:D

my sewing machine is set up next to the ironing board. I simply swivel to iron and swivel back to sew
Generally PP is too time consuming and I can't stand " wasteing" the paper.

It is soooo much more messy than regular piecing. If not for the results I would not do it.

I love it..I have an L shaped station with two tables same height...To the right I have my cutting matt and ironing pad that Judy Taylor puts out...I don't have to get up and down just swing to the right. Use an office chair without arms...

When I was a student, I had a lot of paper where the information was only printed on one side; sometimes only a paragraph. I simply stack up a pile of it and put it backwards in the printer. I was able to use up paper that was no longer meant for professional use. I don't consider pp a waste of paper at all now. ;)

I love paper piecing...I don't have everything set up so I work from my chair...I like that I have to get out of the chair to go to the ironing board then the cutting mat...my age I need the exercise LOL
