I was watching and Eleanor Burns quilt show and she was using a Fiskars ruler with a cutter that was attached to the ruler. Has anyone ever seen or used one of these. I have been attempting to find one but to no avail. I have checked every place I know of (on line) and am wondering if it is no longer available.

The big one was discontinued by the manufacturer. The only place I know of that might still have them is Nancy's Notions (http://www.nancysnotions.com ). Do a search there on Fiskars and see if it comes up.

Edit Update: Nope. I just did a search there and the big one did not come up. They only have the smaller one (which is also available at JoAnn's and maybe Walmart, most likely for less money).

I have the Fiskars ruler and cutter combo and I absolutely love it. I can cut all I want and the fabric will not slip. I just bought another one for my DM from another board member.

I think you could find something similar in scrapbooking or office supplies, ours was marketed as a mini mat cutter and was designed for paper. However, with a new blade in it, its fine for cutting straight lines of fabric, and does a fair job with several layers as long as you are using strong downward pressure.

I use the big one and I have a Fiskars that was designed for scrapbooking that I have used for 10 years...long before the quilting one came out. I couldn't quilt without them.Use them all the time and my DGD uses them also to cut her fabric. I feel safe letting her use it , with my supervision of course.

I bought the long one years ago at Hancock's Fabric at a 50% off sale. It's hanging on my sewing room wall, used twice. For some reason it is very hard for me to figure out how to use it.

We have another brand that is designed for paper at the office supply store where I work. It will do up to 12" length I think. Works very well on multiple sheets of paper and cardstock. Designed so cannot put greater thickness under the ruler than it can cut cleanly. Have not tried it forfabric, but feel sure it would work well.

The larger size that I would want is somewhat pricey, so I'm not planning on getting one any time soon.

I just ordered the sharpener. It's supposed to work on all brands of rotary cutters. Can't wait to get it.
