The money fairy hasn't left me any money under my pillow lately. And I didn't use to quilt very much. My first quilted items 8 years ago were small home dec projects -- table runners, placemats. I only started making bed quilts 16 months ago. There are so many things to buy ... not least of which is fabric ... and never enough funds.

Yes, at some point I will buy a larger rotary cutter, but my current one works just fine for most things. I don't do a ton of patchwork. Mostly I do applique. I am waiting for the next 50-60% off coupon at JAF before I buy (1) a larger rotary cutter, and (2) Gingher applique scissors.

But if anyone has seen the money fairy, please tell her I am desperately in need of funds to purchase more quilting items!!!!

I have 28mm, 45mm and 60mm rotary cutters and all work with the standard shape cutter. Where I have a problem is using the 28 to trim a block using a Dritz square ruler. The ruler is thicker than the free part of the blade unless I hold it straight up and down. I do like the 28 for cutting curved pieces for Drunkard's Path type quilts.

craftsy has an olfa splash for cheap. It is awesome. I like it way better than the ergonomic. Never use a 28mm, only the 45mm and 60mm

I love my 28mm rotary. I use it for the smaller stuff though and especially like to rip seams with it. It's small enough to hold and so far knock on wood, I haven't cut fabric while ripping the seam.

Check Walmart.com to compare the prices of rotary cutters compared to JoAnn. Some items are less at WM even when one used a coupon a JoAnns.

Back to your question on how to fix it:

I think adding the small triangle will work just fine. I have done that in the past and found it to be a good solution. I put the patch fabric right sides together on the short fabric, sewed the seam, pressed it flat, and trimmed it to the proper size. It wasn't noticeable at all. The little extra thickness wasn't noticeable, either.

    Good luck with it!

Ok, I'm going to try piecing on an extra little bit today (don't have a dedicated sewing area where I live -- can't wait for my new apartment to be ready so I have more space and don't have to store my machine between uses). I'll post pictures once I get it right.

Also, I checked out walmart.com & low and behold: their rotary cutters are less than JAF/HL with a coupon! Thanks, bearisgray! So excited! Now I just need to decide whether I want the monster 60mm size or the standard 45mm (I'm keeping my 28mm). I'm considering the 60mm since mostly I cut larger blocks and some strips because I do a lot of applique work and not a lot of piecing. Thoughts?

Yes indeed--go for it. I have a 28 and I think I used it once.

    I have 28mm, 3 or 4 45mm and one 60mm. Can't remember ever using anything except the 45mm.
