    yes, but wider usually.
    i just did a quilt with faux piping. just a two color binding with one color wider and put on so it showed toward the quilt. stiched on the back and folded over the front and stitched in the ditch.

    I did on one the quilts I want to finish to sell...
    http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-55874-2.htm page 2 shows the hippo quilt with a flange border treatment....i heart it and it was easy! I basted my flange down first then added the hippo border...
