Has anyone ever used fleece instead of batting in a quilt? Also, is fleece more cost effective than batting to use?

I've only used it in quilted flannel jackets. Not sure how it would drape for a quilt. The jackets didn't have heavy quilting and they seemed "soft" enough.

Yes, many people have used fleece as batting or as backing. It's not a natural fiber so it doesn't shrink, but many people really like it. It is cheaper than many types of batting.

I have used it as a backing for a light coverlet. No batting, so it is not really a quilt. It makes for a nice soft blanket. I would imagine it would make a good batting and or backing for a quilt.

I have used it as backing, but not batting. It makes a thinner quilt, but you don't have to quilt it closely. The quilts I have made like this are light and cozy.

I used fleece as backing and also used batting with it because DGD wanted it extra warm to carry to football games to stay warm. She is in the band. It turned out very warm and heavy.

I have. I don't use the really thick kind. I like the weight and the drape, and since it is knitted, you don't need to quilt too closely. I got a bolt of white on sale for about $2 per yard, so the price was right! I just finished quilting one, and I had no problems with it at all. It washes well, too.
