    Default FMQ for sampler quilt

Ok could use some advice - I have about 16 blocks for a sampler quilt. I can manage up to about 72 x 72 on my mid arm so I will probably sash it. The big question is how to FMQ it? I am worried because sampler quilts can look very busy. I am thinking about a simple meander but should I just do that in the light spaces or is it ok to meander over the entire block?

Its a gift so I don't want to make a mistake.....

Samplers can be FMQ a lot of different ways. Of course you can do an all over. Or you can pick a stencil and repeat that motif in every sampler block or you can quilt every sampler block different with either a motif that repeats or throw all caution to the wind and don't repeat anything like I did in my batik block swap sampler http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t221823.html or the farmers wife sampler I did http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...c-t212181.html . There is no right or wrong there are no mistakes. Do what you like and feel comfortable doing.

for samplers, filling in around the block design or SITD for each block can work well because, from the back, you get another 'sampler' look
as feline fanatic says, though, there are no mistakes

ditto what Nan and Fanatic said. I have found that with busy quilts, most of the time the quilting fades into the background. On a sampler it will probably be the blocks that shine.

Oh my goodness Feline Fanatic, those are just GORGEOUS. Maybe I will just take pictures of each block and start sketching!
