Folded Dahlia Block...Help!!

Folded Dahlia Block...Help!!
Hi Everyone...I just finished a folded dahlia block and need some pointers on how to finish off the block. I'm making it into a pillow so I need to get it square. I know there's probably an easy way to do it but I can't get my brain wrapped around the thought process. HELP!! Have included picture so you can see it.

very pretty! when i made one i cut it into a circle, bound the outside edge and mounted it onto a square of fabric, put cording around the edge of the square and added a matching backing. i haven't seen another that was finished the same way. many finish it with strips and as an octagon.

I don't see why you couldn't sew another block (like the outer blue) to each of the "corners", filling them out and making it square. You would be sewing them together across the wide edges of the blocks. In order the the weight to be right, I think you would want to duplicate that outside block. I don't see why this would not work, but I must tell you I have not actually tried it. If you do, you might let us know if it worked!

I would measure each point to the edge of the fabric. Then I would use the measurement that is the smallest (say your measurements are anywhere from 1" down to 1/3".) Then I would make a mark straight out from the point to 1/3" out. Then cut from point to point and then your octagon would be "square". Once your Octagon is square, you can measure from the center out to the size of square you want the pillow to be. Make sure each side is the same width from the edge of the fabric Hope this doesn't confuse you more.

It is Gorgeous! Love the fabric combinations you chose.
I am not always good at explaining....but I cut triangles for the four edges to make it square; then I took strips and made the entire block square.

Blue is my favorite color. Love your work of art. I watched a tutorial on this and wasn't sure I was ready to tackle it. I have quite a stash of blues so maybe I will have to give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration.
