    I color code mine. I put all the same colors together, folded as neatly as possible, and store them in pastic pull out drawers.

    I do the same thing but I use a 9" ruler. If the fabric is a large piece it's easy to estimate how much fabric you have without unfolding it. 4 folds of 9" each equals one yard of fabric. You could do the same with the 6" fold but count 6 of them as one yard.
