I tried the vacuuming, but it didn't work on mine. Ok, what worked for me: my husband opened the pedal by gently prying one side outward at the narrow end with a knife. Then remove screws holding the black round thing (that says do not disassemble on it ), then gently pry black box open with very small flat screwdriver or ice pick--retractable spring will jump out at you. My cord was not retractable anyway (or not working), so we left the spring out. There are 4 copper contacts inside and he gently pushed all of them upward to make contact with the lid of the black box better--not straight up but at a steeper angle and making sure they'll make contact when you put the black lid back on. Put the lid back on, put the screws back in and pop the pedal back together. He just got finished doing this and it's working wonderfully so far--before, my green start light had gotten so bad it would stay on only for a few seconds then turn red and flip on and off every few seconds. It hasn't turned red yet while I was testing it. Now, I didn't have anything to lose because it wasn't working anyway, but if you tear your pedal up, I'm not responsible. :-) Sure is working fine now. :-D
