I can't date any of the fabrics. I have heard the poly/cotton used for blouses and dresses will not fade nor wear as fast as 100% cotton and therefore they shouldn't be mixed. However this quilt looks great. Ask your Daughter not to wash it too often, washing too often hurries the wearing of any quilt or comforter. Sorry, I can't help dating the fabrics. It is very pretty and she is so lucky to have it.

Well I found out from my wife while we are sitting here talking about it, that she moved to New Orleans in 1964. She graduated in 1971 and moved back to Tennessee in 1975. And we married in 1985, so it was made around 1972 the best that she can remember.

Anyway I am going to study it and make one that will fit our King Sized bed. This quilt is for a twin from what Valerie can remember. And it has batting in there but it is thin so I am thinking either cotton or maybe another blanket since she was probably making use of something she already had in the house to save money.

But I really like the simplicity of it! :-D

That is a beautiful quilt. Reminds me of my GM quilts that she always made. I have many of her quilts and I cherish each and everyone. A few are falling apart but I will still keep them forever.

I also found out that her mom worked at a garment factory and more than likely got the fabric from her work. That explains the paisley and the fabrics that are the same pattern but different colors.

I think I will take the weekend off from the Hot Rods and see if I can not start cutting on the fabric out of my stash and see if I can not get the top made. The only advantage I will have is that I will be using my treadle and I will have to figure out which machine I will use on this one. I might use my 1900 Singer 24 chain stitch for this one, I have been saving it for something special.

I can't say with any certainty but the ones with the stripes look like old pillow ticking fabrics.

Just this week, our guild had a speaker who shared feed sacks and their history. (She has had over 10,000 - a collector of all sorts of things related to feed sacks.) They were made from the mid 1800's until sometime in the 1960's. Some she showed were paisley. So it could be...Your family research is probably more correct, as cotton was the fiber of choice for the feed sacks. I'll bet similar fabrics could be found somewhere. I've seen something like them at goodwill...

I'll be waiting to see your reproduction. The original reminds me of some my grandmother made. (What happened to them is more than I know.) Definitely utilitarian. Much used. Much loved.

I have a quilt my MIL made us in the 70's and she mixed polyesters with the cottons. It still looks good and it is used all the time. In fact some of the fabrics are knit. LOL She just used what she liked wothout a concern for content.

My mom made shoe bags (like a small pillowcase for protecting your clothes from your shoes in your suitcase when traveling) out of fabrics just like those. The only places to get fabric in our town at that time were Kress and Ben Frankin..don't think we had Perry's yet then. I'd forgotten all about them till I saw your pic...thanks for the memories!
