    They have to be appliqués onto another square. You can do it by hand or machine.

    Love the block but trying to add the squares and triangles needed may be problematic because those bias edges have probably been stretched over time and it is doubtful that each square or triangle is the same size in all 8 places you need to add them. you could cut them oversized and trim them after sewing but I would suggest hand piecing them rather than using a machine. I think applique would be the better way to go.
