    I use full size paper towels to make a 10" string block. Kind of linty but works great Got the idea from my former mother-in-law.

    sill old school here, using old phone books. I thought the netting idea above was brilliant but the more I thought about it I realized, string quilts are generally utility type quilts, meant to be used, washed, used some more in all manner of ways. Mine have been anyway. and I've worked with netting (can anyone say crochet pot scrubbies?) and it is very scratchy. I think this might add some serious wear issues over time. I will try it if I ever make a string wall quilt project though.
