Four Patch Posey Update Help!!!
#13
A few days ago I posted this thread about a new quilt pattern I learned in a class. I am really having the greatest time doing this one because each square is an adventure.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...y-t286646.html
The pattern calls for a 1" border (1/2" finished) around each block then 2" sashing with corner stones. Everyone that had made this one in our guild used the same method of putting their quilt together. This did not speak to me and I was wanting something different. CHRISTmas green was one of the main colors in the blocks. I had a small CHRISTmas green checked fabric I wanted to use but it was too busy with my blocks. This is what I came up with and I H O N E S T L Y want your opinion before I continue. Is the red too much? Should I audition an ivory or cream colored background? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Just remember for the future that red is a "jumper". I will always jump forward in your quilt. I agree that it is too much around the posies. Why not make more posies and then set them closer together, possibly skipping the red and going with a cream as you suggested.

A couple bits of color theory that might help:
1. The lighter the color, the more it comes forward; the darker the color, the more it recedes.
2. Red is the most eye-catching color of all (probably because it's the color of blood and there's survival value to our brains noticing blood quickly).
The latter reason is why the red borders draw attention away from your pretty posies. Any chance you'd do a dark green border in its place? It would recede more than cream. Like others have recommended: audition, audition, audition.

I have made 2 of this quilt. What fun!!!! The reason for the sashing around each block is to let the block "pop" from the background. My question is what color/kind of quilt do you want this to be-Christmas/year round. This decision should influence your accent fabrics. this pattern calls for 1/2 finished and 1"finished sashing between blocks. Following this suggestion allow the individual block to "pop" Maybe red inner sashing and then outer sashing in the green or maybe whits.
