Prewash-- that will tighten up the weave some. Handle as little as possible and perhaps shorten your stitch length a little bit. I've made a few homespun quilts, they are very nice-- I think one is somewhere here on the board. Homespun quilts used to be quite popular, common

I was going to say the same thing. Prewash it and rhrow it in the dryer. When sewing it use tighter stitches. I have made several quilts over the years using homespun. There have held and still look good after washing. I love the look of the homespun plaids. So go for it! You won't be disappointed!
