Has anyone purchased the bobbin case specifically for free motion quilting? I had never heard of this until I needed to replace my bobbin case (can you believe it - I LOST it in house somewhere!). I was asked what one I wanted. Does it make a huge difference when you are free motion quilting?

I have purchased it though I can't say a lot about it .... have only used it for minimal practice yet.
The joy is that you do not have to adjust your tension settings.

The other thing that I purchased was the better FMQ foot, that gives you more of a "foot" than the traditional darning foot. There's actually three different feet in the package, and the one that I was directed too was th plastic one with the circular bottom on it ..... it worked like a dream, compared to anytime I had done FMQing in the past with the regular darning foot. Again, I've only done a wee bit at this point .......... I was totally impressed, and so was a friend who decided to buy the new foot.

Get your shop to give you a demo and let you test drive it before you buy!

I have the Horizon 7700 and I did purchase the blue dot bobbin case, which I think, is the one you're talking about? The first couple of times I quilted, I completely forgot that I had the case and I had no problems with my quilting. I'd suggest, if you've been quilting ok with what you already have, there probably isn't the need to spend the money on the other case. I have used it since, but I can't say it made any big difference.

The main difference between that case and the one you would currently have in your machine is that the tension is set a little lower. You can achieve the same thing by loosening the tension in your current bobbin holder but, having the additional case means you don't have to fiddle with the tension on your 'good' case and therefore risk messing the tension up on that one.

Just a heads up if you do purchase the FM bobbin case: be sure to change it out for piecing, I ruined one because I didn't change it. Also, I did notice a bit of a difference in my quilting but I'm not sure that it was enough to make the purchase worth it.

I use the Janome 6600 and I have never heard of it. I will have to look into it when I go the shop next time. Would love to know if it makes a diff.

I have the 6300p and it made a big difference in the stitches they are much loser when fmqing , but not to loose I use mine with the feed dogs down. DottieBug

I bought the bobbin, the fmq foot and supreme slider. I struggled with fmq until I installed the new bobbin and change the foot out - it seemed to work a treat for me. Now I am wondering if I should really have tried one change at a time because it might have been that I only needed one or the other!

Lisa, now I am wondering - why would it make a difference to your machine if you pieced with the low tension bobbin as opposed to the regular one? I think I may have forgotten to change them out myself once before but I didn't observe any problems?

i bought the blue-dot bobbin case for my janome MC6600 and it made a big difference.

once i upgraded to the MC8900, using the special bobbin case made no difference at all. (of course, i must point out that my FMQ on the 8900 is much more successful in all respects, so the special bobbin case seems to have been unnecessary.)

so i included the blue-dot case in the selling price when i sent my 6600 to a new home.
