How do I get more info about the vinyl surface that you are mentioning. I am getting ready to pay to have my first quilt done on a long arm machine. I have done quilting on my machine but it was not satisfactory. What do you suggest? Thanks for much for your help. I love this site.

I use dollar store gardening gloves, not to hot or heavy and they only cost $1.00.

    Hey There,
I know that this is going to sound crazy but......it's not !. I went to walmart and over at the the body wash isle was a pair of bathing gloves for $1.96. They felt alittle ruff and a light bulb went off in my head and a little voice that said....I bet these would be great for free motion quilting. I bought them and..THEY WORK GREAT!.Save your money.

One or two drops of glycerin will provide all the tackiness your hands need for FMQ and you can get a life time supply at any drug store for $3 - $4. Just put a drop or two on your palm and rub your hands together. I haven't used gloves since discovering this.

I used pink styrofoam insulation on my table to raise the table top to the level of the machine bed. I covered this with vinyl. The level is great.

Here's my question--Do any of you use silicone spray ON the vinyl that covers the table top?

I'll try to post a picture of my table top later. (After I clean up a little!!)

The Altas 370 gardening gloves are perfect and really therapeutic for arthritic hands and are less than $10.00/pr. They come in small sizes and even tho are gray neoprene on the figure tips, they do not leave any marks anywhere! I don't FM quilt but doing other styles on any size quilt is so much easier with them!

I'm in agreement with everyone else. I've seen those youtube videos and have been to her website. I purchased those gloves only, don't get the combo deal.... just use the gloves, use your darning foot for your machine, and drop your feed dogs! that's all you really need. Later on I did buy one of those sliding sheets off of ebay- not much money spent and great results!
    Kind Regards,

I found some nice white cotton gloves in the dollar store here in Canada if you can believe that.... they work wonderfully and they even hold up for a couple of washes.

I like the quilting gloves, but, I haven't tried gardening gloves. I don't know about the other stuff in the pkg, I don't use them, but have heard of them. I think practice is the best tool. Don't get discouraged, chalk all the mistakes up to a learning experience. You didn't learn to do cursive in one day, so you practiced, same with fm quilting.
