How old are your Kenmores? Some in the 80s were made by New Home (Janome bought them) so a foot for a New Home should work. Does either of the machines have a 2 position foot lift? Pfaff did on older machines.
Leah Day does have a a tutorial for a floating foot.
Here's a link to some sewing feet for Kenmore. If none of these, generic high or low shank whichever you have should work. http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/ken...sser-feet.aspx

Are you dropping the feed dogs. When I was learning, I often forgot to do this. Keep trying it is a most relaxing way to quilt quickly. Also play music while you are quilting. It helps you keep a smooth flow to your stitching.

Thank you everyone but it appears I have a bigger problem. I own to different Kenmore machines and they tell me that there is no quilting foot to go with either of them. They have a darning foot, which came with the machine, but it is not even close to what I need.
