My friends and I are always honest about fabric. The three of us have completely different tastes in fabric, so usually we just say, "Yep, that looks like you!" But what we have discovered is that something we thought was ugly (usually) turns out really nice when it's put with other fabrics in a quilt. And even if I don't like the fabric in a quilt, there's always something nice I can say about the quilt! I can admire the pattern, the quilting, the way the fabrics match so well, etc.

I guess I'm the only one here that doesn't tell my honest opinion. :) I have the worst time with speaking my mind or giving opinions. I worry so much about hurting another's feelings. I live by "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." :)

I do when I am with my friends and they tell me their opinions as well. However, we all have our different likes and dislikes and different tastes. I have seen them buy some fabrics I though questionable and they have turned them into gorgeous quilts!!!

Now that I think about it again, I went to my quilt show the other day and asked for some ugly fabric. I called it a "what were they thinking" fabric. I was teaching my trapunto class and wanted to show them a sample of Shadow Trapunto. My idea was to show them how to soften up a little bit a loud or ugly fabric. They loved it.

I'm honest and have no problem letting them know what I think.

If they ask, I do give my honest opinion but I expect the same from my friends. We all have different tastes in fabric and sometimes I buy fabric to go with opther fabric in my stash but usually I buy fabric b/c it calls my name.

Here's my take. If I ask you, you can tell me it's ugly. If I disagree, I'll buy it anyway.

If I ask you if it "goes" with another piece of fabric and you san NO, I won't buy it. I'm a bad faric matcher and have learned that nearly everyone's advice is better than mine.

I give an honest answer, and follow it with "but if it is something you really love, by all means get some, but I wont be buying any!
