I've been pondering and pondering and thought I'd ask you what your opinion is.
Friendship Stars
Do they all need to rotate the same direction in a medallion setting? Or can each round deside to twinkle in a different direction?
I working on the Seeing Star scrappy quilt and wanting to do each round with Friendship stars going in different directions. When I brought this up at guild the other night I had some poo-poo comments and told this would mess up the design of the quilt.
My idea was there would be no distinct direction in the stars and they would appear to twinkle instead of follow the leader. I also thought this would be a good break out from the so-called traditional ideas.
What's your opinion?

Kind of hard to visualize, but I'm wondering if there are some undercover quilt police in your guild.... I think if you want to make them go in different directions, you can, because it's YOUR quilt. :)
Do you have EQ or any other software that can help you visualize what it would look like?

Okay, I was bored and couldn't resist. I know this is probably nowhere near what you were thinking of...
The first one is with all the stars going one direction. The second is with the stars going in the same direction, but alternating directions from one round to the next. The third flips every other star, so they're in opposite directions.
Does this help?

I'm with Lioness...........I like them "twinkling" in different directions. It seems to give the quilt more interest so that your eye travels from one to another. Definitely like #3, or another similar version. It is your quilt however, so do what pleases you. The quilt police don't have to see it every day, you do. : )

I prefer the 3rd one myself. The first 2 give the illusion that the quilt isn't square but if you were doing a scrappy version on a light background; I don't think they would do the lop-sided trick on my eyes.
