I just came to the same conclusion after baking for a local benefit. I had over $20.00+ in groceries and made 8 banana breads and 7 plates of Texas sheet cakes. Everything would have to sell at $2/ea to come out ahead. Oh well, I tried.

One fundraiser I would caution against is the "silent auction". All of those that I have seen bring in very little money for the time and dollars invested by contributors. This is a prime example of a contributor being better off donating $20 instead of a handmade item to be auctioned off.

Our small guild held a quilter's yard sale in June. Members brought fabric, scraps, patterns, tools, magazines, notions, etc. already priced. Items were bought and the money left in our treasury. We made about $135 and had a lot of fun. Plans are to do this twice a year. Leftovers that no one wanted to take back home were donated to our local Hospice thrift store. I bought some great yardage and a whole bag of scraps.
