    Default Fusible batting

I have a lap sized quilt top and I am planning on using Fairfield Fusi-boo fusible batting to make my quilt sandwich. I know most people don't like using fusible batting for big projects like this but I wanted to try it. I am either going to make my quilt sandwich on my kitchen table (stone) or my ceramic tile floor. I want to slip something under the sandwich to protect my table or floor but I don't really know what, I feel like even picking it up to slide my ironing board underneath will create puckers. Any ideas?

I've just done mine on the large ironing board. Start in the center, iron out to each side, reposition & keep ironing out to the edges. Turn over when done & do the back.

Do you put it together on the floor and then pick it up and put it on the board or put it together all on the ironing board?

I have a large piece of plexiglass from lowes or Home Depot to slip under my quilts.

I have an old carpet in the basement that I can iron my Hobbs 80/20 fusible batt sandwich on. Do you live near an appliance store that will let you have a refrigerator box? I have used the cardboard 4x4 sheets of cardboard that come between the paper towels or toilet tissue at Walmart for ironing smaller sandwiches.

Thanks for the info! I fused it tonight, I like it much better than basting! There are a few puckers I need to fix on the back but it looks great otherwise. Its definitely stiffer than normal batting, not sure how I feel about that yet. I will have to get brave and try spray basting on my next quilt!

Can anyone tell me if it softens up once your quilt is washed?

when I am using my floor to layout a 'sandwich' i'm going to be fusing I usually start with a piece of flannel, or a different (non-fusible) batting- then lay out my backing, batting, top. as for the 'stiffness' it should wash away- since the fusible will wash away when the quilt is laundered. I've not tried 'Fairfield' fusible batting- but the fusible battings I have used all softened up-washed away when laundered. as long as it is not a 'craft' fusible made for projects that will be stiff & not laundered. reading the package should tell you what to expect.
