Whether you plan to expose the quilt to cold or not, the fact that the marks come back means there is a chemical left in your fabric. They were not developed for use on fabric and the long term effect of that chemical residue is not known, as far as I have been able to determine. That alone is enough for me not to use them. They can also leave a ghost image on very light fabric. I have read that if you starch after marking, the marks can also become permanent, and I have heard at least one horror story of them coming back after a quilt was shipped and never completely went away again. I know some people love them, but they are not for me.

Has anyone figured out how to remove those hosts? I used it on my GMFG hexagons as I stitched them together; the ghosts are not an asset.

Yes, I also have heard of 'problems' arising from these pens. If I use mine (now) it will only be for cutting lines.

We don't know what the chemicals in Frixion pens will do to our quilts in the future.

Crayola washable markers work just as well and they're made to wash out of fabric.

There is a new washable Crayon marker out now. http://www.crayola.com/ . I use the Frixon pens or the washable markers, whatever I grab first.

This is why, if you buy them, you need to keep them away from kids. They like to write secret messages on paper or cloth with them.

I scribbled all over a muslin square with the Frixon. Ironed it and put it in the freezer. Some marks appeared. I washed and dried the square and put it in the freezer. No marks appeared. The gel washes out.

The marks can reappear if the quilt is in a place where it's cold enough. The solution, I have been told, and I do this, is to wash the quilt. If you wash the quilt when it's finished, the markings will not return.
